The Free Motion Quilting Project: Express Your Love

Express Your Love

In 2013 I shared the Express Your Love Quilt Along with weekly videos shared to the Free Motion Quilting Project. This was the first time I'd ever created a pattern from a goddess quilt for other quilters to follow along.

Unfortunately I didn't organize this quilt along very well. I wanted the opportunity to play with lots of different techniques, but I hadn't take the time to plan ahead and have patterns or materials ready for the different versions of the quilt we eventually created.

You can find the official introduction video to this quilt along right here.

In short, I learned a lot during this quilt along about being organized, writing a single, clear pattern, and how to be a better online quilting teacher. Find all the posts and videos shared during this quilt along here:
Note: The Express Your Love quilt pattern is currently in revision. A new version will be available in 2018.

  1. I just got the spoonflower panel in the mail yesterday. I need to get backing. I can't believe I can't find a yard of fabric that will work in my stash. I think I am going to outline with the thread that washes out. I have never used it, but thought this might be a good place to try it.

  4. Does the Isacord spool fit on a standard spool holder? It looks so big I just can't tell from the pictures. Thanks.

  5. Leah,

I don't think I have been getting the weekly newsletters even though I am signed up. I did not get the Friday letter, but found it on your site.

  6. Thank you for giving me the encouragement to have a go at free motion. Thanks to your helpful tutorials, no more boring straight lines and very few broken needles... :-)

  7. Leah is the best. I had trouble loading an e-book from her and she kept working with me until it worked. What great customer service.

  8. Leah, I love ur approach to teaching each techniques. I'm planning to appliqué pieces for "Express Your Love" project. I couldn't find ur tutorial about Applique. Can u help me here ?

  9. Hi Anitha - I actually never taught a straight up applique method for Express Your Love. We learned trapplique and will learn textured applique soon, but regular applique just didn't get hit this time around. Do a google search through my YouTube videos and I'm sure you can find something that will work well. The biggest key is just to get started with fabrics you like and a method that makes sense to you.

    Good Luck!

  10. Leah, Thank you for all you do. I have learned so much. I still have lots of mistakes to make while I am learning and having fun while I am at it. I am far from completing your projects, but I will finish. I am looking forward to the more structured 2014 project. And to your big sale of course. Totally love Josh's tips!!!
